Uncommon Wine for Thoughtful Minds

Authenticity Those who understand and appreciate all the qualities of wine, its sense of place, the beauty of the vineyards, the culture of winegrowing, as well as the taste of wine, they know they can only find those qualities at a winery that grows grapes. Wineries that grow all their grapes are called “Estate Wineries”. Bainbridge Island Vineyards is the only 100% Estate Winery in the Puget Sound region. Only here can you walk the vineyards, touch the soil and drink every one of the wines in the vineyard from which it came. .

Rarity All of our wines are grown and produced in tiny handcrafted lots. They are truly handcrafted in that our hands lift the wine out of the soil and into your glass. We proudly show how rare our wines are by putting on every label the number of cases produced. All of our wines are made in case lots of from as little as 75 cases to as much as 450 cases. We believe if a wine is truly rare, that rarity, like that of a numbered print should be shared with the consumer.

Integrity The integrity of our wines is based upon the integration of vineyard and winery. Not only do we not buy grapes, we do not buy so called “custom crushed” wines that are made by other wineries, nor do we buy bulk wines and sell them as our own. Furthermore, all of the waste products of winemaking which are considerable, do not go into the waste stream. They go back into the vineyards where they are a treasure of fertility rather than a burden on the environment.

Sustainability Moving grapes across the landscape is environmentally costly. Most irrigation is highly subsidized by the government and is not economically sustainable. Irrigation that takes water from salmon is not environmentally sustainable. We choose not to participate in the industrialization of wine; the separation of vineyard from winery, of consumer from winegrower.

Uniqueness An island in a vast sea of Chardonnay, Cabernet, and Merlot; we grow exciting, unusual, and richly flavored varietals that are truly “Uncommon”.
