TRANSITIONING INTO BIODYNAMICS
The vineyards we inherited haven't been treated with chemical inputs for over a decade, and under our management we certified the vines as organic in 2014. There are always ways in which we are evolving our vineyard management system for the better, and after attending an inspiring Biodynamics workshop earlier this spring, we are experimenting with some of the essential practices. As shared at the workshop, Biodynamics elevate or enhance existing good farming practices. It is a regenerative approach to keeping the farm organism in balance and bringing resilience into the plants.
Two weeks ago, the farm crew made a tea of stinging nettles and horsetail (pictured above), which fermented for 10 days. Last week, we sprayed it on the new growth of the grape vines to help mitigate fungal disease.
